CEPRI’s Chief Engineer Attended the 14th General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency in Abu Dhabi

From April 16 to 18, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) held the 14th General Assembly in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Wang Weisheng, Chief Engineer of CEPRI, and his delegation were invited to attend the conference, and reached a consensus with IRENA Innovation and Technology Center (IITC) on strengthening the follow-up cooperation.

During the conference, Wang Weisheng participated in a sub-forum roundtable discussion on "Accelerating ASEAN’s Growth and Resilience: Grid Interconnections Power the Tripling of Renewables". He analyzed the challenges faced by Southeast Asian countries in the development of renewable energy from the aspects of resource endowment, current characteristics and future trends, and pointed out that strengthening power grid interconnection could achieve complementary advantages of Southeast Asian countries, and promote the large-scale consumption of renewable energy. Based on China's engineering practice in renewable energy integration and large-scale power grid construction and operation, he suggested that Southeast Asian countries may build technical capabilities by carrying out demonstration projects, to gradually improve the technical level of renewable energy and power grid interconnection.

Wang Weisheng also held a talk with Roland Roesch, the Director of IITC. Wang Weisheng said that as a scientific research institution with the longest history and the strongest comprehensive strength in China's power industry, China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) and IITC were highly compatible and complementary in terms of development strategy and business fields. The two parties have carried out fruitful cooperation in the early stage, which has been highly recognized by State Grid Corporation of China and IRENA. In the future, CEPRI looks forward to further deepening cooperation with IITC in personnel exchanges, report release and event organizing, etc., and promoting the implementation of the strategic cooperation agreement between State Grid Corporation of China and IRENA with high quality.

Roland Roesch warmly welcomed Wang Weisheng and his delegation, highly recognized the cooperation between the two sides, and hoped that the two sides would continue to deepen cooperation in joint research, personnel exchanges, international events and other aspects, and work together to strive for more new research results.
