Smart Metering Infrastructure Alliance Summit (SMIAS) 2019 Held in Beijing

On October 16-17, Smart Metering Infrastructure Alliance Summit (SMIAS) 2019 was held at China National Convention Center. Under the guidance of State Grid Corporation of China, the Summit was sponsored by Smart Metering Infrastructure Alliance (SMIA), jointly undertaken by China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI), State Grid Energy Internet Technology Research Institute, State Grid Information Telecommunication Group Co., Ltd and Wasion Holdings Limited, and co-organized by China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., SPIC Central Research Institute Co., Ltd., National Institute of Metrology, China and China National Institute of Standardization. Approximately 1,000 leaders and guests from State Administration for Market Regulation, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Electricity Council, IEC (an international organization), Tsinghua University, East China University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University, Huawei, Alibaba, Tencent, Siemens, and more than 200 entities such as the relevant upstream and downstream enterprises of the intelligent metering industry, scientific research institutions, universities, industry associations, overseas institutions, etc., attended the meeting.

Mr. Han Jun, executive vice president of the CPC group of State Grid Corporation of China was present at the Summit. Mr. Xie Jun, director of the Department of Metrology of State Administration for Market Regulation, Mr. Feng Wei, from the Office of Industralization and Informationization, Department of Information and Software Services, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Mr. Zhang Jiankun, Deputy Chief Engineer of State Grid Corporation of China, Mr. Xu Songlin, deputy secretary-general of China Electricity Council, Mr. Zhao Peng, chairman (president) of CEPRI, respectively delivered a speech at the meeting. The meeting was co-presided over by Mr. Wang Jiye, general manager of CEPRI and president of State Grid Energy Internet Technology Research Institute, and Mr. Li Peng, chief engineer of CEPRI. At the meeting, Mr. Xie Jun emphasized the role of metrology in promoting quality reform, and affirmed SMIAS's gratifying achievements in joint research, technical exchange, standard formulation and product promotion. Mr. Feng Wei conveyed the relevant requirements of the State in the development of industrial Internet, and gave the guidance on the participation of the electric power industry in the construction of industrial Internet platforms. Mr. Zhang Jiankun clarified the role and functional positioning of intelligent metering in the Internet of Things in Electricity construction process of his company, and defined the future work priorities and goals of SMIAS. Mr. Xu Songlin shared the standard planning done by China Electricity Council to support the construction of the Internet of Things in Electricity. And Mr. Zhao Peng said that CEPRI would continue to act as the link of SMIAS, implement the latest strategic requirements of relevant ministries, commissions and CEPRI, and fully support the construction of the Internet of Things in Electricity.

The experts attending the meeting believed that SMIAS had made substantial breakthroughs in the research, standard setting, product certification and international recognition of the new generation of intelligent measurement equipment, had formed a large amount of innovations, had effectively solved many problems in fair electric energy trading, energy information security, grid operation detection, customer service improvement, equipment quality supervision, etc. in the development of grids, and had driven the coordinated development of upstream and downstream industries.

At the three parallel sessions, 42 experts from relevant governmental agencies, enterprises and universities gave special speeches to share and discuss the advanced application and development prospects in intelligent measurement and the Internet of Things in Electricity construction.

During the Summit, the "National Energy Measurement Center (Electric Power)" was unveiled. The Center will provide important technical support for serving the national energy strategy and promoting the national ecological civilization construction and green development, and provide more powerful guarantee for the high-quality development of the power industry and the power consumption and energy conservation of the users. The Summit had an exhibition area of innovative technology achievements, focusing on the new technologies and new achievements in intelligent measurement and the Internet of Things in Electricity of 35 intelligent metering upstream and downstream enterprises. In the exhibition area of State Grid, 27 provincial power companies and related units directly under State Grid demonstrated their explorations and achievements in the construction of the Internet of Things in Electricity.

This Summit will further agglomerate the resources of the whole society, promote technology innovation, core technology R&D, and standard system construction of the metering industry, in order to achieve higher-quality, more efficient, more impartial and more sustainable development.
