[Xinhua News Agency]Chinas First Successful Overseas Bid, Belo Monte Hydropower UHV Transmission Project, Starts Construction in Brazil
Beijing, May 20—It's learned from SGCC that the company's first successful overseas bid in UHV transmission project, the Belo Monte Hydropower UHV Transmission Project, launched the ground-making ceremony in Brazil on May 19 local time.
The Belo Monte Hydropower UHV Transmission Project (with 11GW installed capacity) is the second largest hydropower station in Brazil. The ±800kV UHV DC output project is the first UHV DC transmission line in the Americas, delivering electricity fueled by hydropower resources in the north to the load center in the southeast in Brazil.
According to SGCC, this is the first time that China ever won an overseas bid in UHV transmission project. This project includes the construction of a 2084km-long UHV DC transmission line at ±800kV and the converter stations at both ends, which are expected to finish at the end of 2017.
Experts believe this marks a great breakthrough in the internationalization of China's UHV technologies and bears the significance for China to promote the export of its avant-garde technologies and the expansion of Sino-Brazil economic and trade cooperation.
In recent years, SGCC has been actively developing its international market. Up to now, it is operating the backbone energy networks in Brazil, Portugual, Australia, Italy, Philippines, and Hong Kong. Its overseas assets reach 29.8 billion US dollars, 17 times of that in 2009. (by Yu Jiaxin)
