Renewable Energy Research Center
Founded in 2006, the Renewable Energy Research Center (RERC) was formerly known as the New Energy Research Division and can be further tracked back to the New Energy Power Generation Institute founded in 1994. In March 2012, the Party Leadership Group of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) determined to integrate its directly subordinate scientific research institutions, where the Renewable Energy Research Division of China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) and the Clean Energy Power Generation Research Division of SGCC Electric Power Research Institute were combined into the New Energy Research Division of CEPRI. In April 2016, the Renewable Energy Research Center was founded in accordance with the requirements of Official Reply of State Grid Corporation of China concerning the Adjustment Plan for Organizational Structuring and Staffing of CEPRI (SGCCHRRZ (2016) No. 309).
As one of the earliest domestic research and advisory organizations specialized in renewable energy generation, RERC is an indispensable technical support for SGCC in the field of renewable energy generation planning, management and operation, mainly engaging in the analysis and evaluation, prediction and meteorological application, dispatch and operation, testing and measurement, key control equipment, distributed generation of wind and photovoltaic power generation grid integration. RERC owns State Key Laboratory of Operation and Control of Renewable Energy & Storage Systems, National Wind Power Integration Research and Test Center and National Solar Energy Research and Test Center. RERC is also in charge of running the IEC SC8A secretariat (Grid Integration of Renewable Energy Generation) and the only member of International Measuring Network for Wind Energy (MEASNET) outside Europe and America.
By the end of 2015 RERC owns 1 National Young and Middle-aged Leading Innovative Talent of Science and Technology, 1 Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions to the Country, 1 expert enjoying the special subsidy of the State Council, and 5 excellent technical experts of SGCC.
Since 2006, RERC has undertaken 15 national science and technology projects, 33 SGCC major technology projects, in which “Key technology and utilization of large scale wind power grid integration operation and testing” project achieved the second prize of National Science Progress Award in 2013. RERC has drafted 62 national, industrial and company standards, owns 40 invention patents, 25 software copyrights, 12 publications and 208 core papers.
RERC has developed comprehensive simulation analysis and testing capability for renewable energy power grid integration study. Through the key technology study, standards development and grid integration testing of RERC, the technical level of domestic renewable equipment has been improved; the renewable power off-grid problem has been solved; the safe operation of power grid has been guaranteed; the technical difficulties of renewable power prediction and dispatch optimization has been overcome, and the renewable power dispatch technology support system has been widely applied in 23 electric power control centers at or above province level; the “Predictable, Dispatchable, Controllable, Evaluable” of renewable power generation has been achieved, which can effectively promote the prior consumption of renewable power.
RERC will continue deeply implementing innovation-driven development strategy and national energy development strategy, serving Global Energy Internet development, making new and bigger contributions for large scale renewable energy grid integration and its efficient utilization.
RERC will continue firmly serving national energy development strategy, serving smart grid development of SGCC, and serving overall research situation of CEPRI. RERC is trying to become an internationally renowned and domestically foremost research and testing organization in the field of renewable energy generation in 3-5 years.
