Energy Storage and Electrotechnics Department
As a subordinate unit of China Electric Power Research Institute, the Energy Storage and Electrotechnics Department (“ESED”) is a scientific research institution specialized in power grid advanced technology, such as large-scale energy storage technology, superconducting power technology, new materials and their application technology.
ESED is mainly responsible for scientific research, technical consultation, testing and detection, technical support services of the three major areas——the large-scale energy storage technology and applications, superconducting power technology and new electrical engineering materials. Therein, the large-scale energy storage technology mainly focuses on the research of battery energy storage device, battery material technology, the application theory of energy storage system, the application technology of energy storage engineering, energy storage device characteristics and the characteristics test, test and evaluation technology of storage system integration. Superconducting power technology mainly takes on superconducting AC / DC transmission technology research, energy storage and current limiting and other advanced superconducting substation equipment and power cable research and engineering application. And it also works on the design, manufacture and system integration of large magnet windings, high voltage terminals and other key components. Besides, it studies some core technologies, such as grid application system, efficient cooling, protection and control etc. New electrical engineering materials mainly include technical research of three sub areas, that is: wireless power transmission technology, optical fiber based sensor technology and thermoelectric materials technology.
ESED contains five business research divisions, and several SGCC laboratories, such as Battery Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Laboratory, and Zhangbei Energy Storage System Integration Test Base. Therein, the BEST Laboratory passed the CNAS/CMA qualification certification in 2015, and has successfully become the key laboratory of SGCC. What’s more, by combinining with the Renewable Energy Center, the BEST laboratory was approved to be part of the state key laboratory for new energy and energy storage operation control in September 2015.
After years of development, ESED has formed a distinctive research group in the field of large-scale energy storage, superconducting power applications and new electrical engineering materials. So far, ESED has undertaken lots of projects, including 15 national major science and technology projects, such as "973", "863”, scientific & technological support and natural science foundation; 1 project of Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission; 34 major science and technology projects of SGCC. ESED has taken the domestic leading position in relevant fields. Besides, 1 industry standard and 9 SGCC enterprise standards have been organized and drafted; 34 national invention patents and 38 national utility patents have been gained; 20 items of computer software copyrights have been registered; and 6 academic monographs and more than 100 core papers have been published.
ESED will adhere to scientific development and independent innovation, and actively commit itself to the frontier field of power technology research, and make every effort to provide strong technical support for energy storage technology, superconducting power technology and new materials technology research.
