Special Optical Cable Laboratory

Special Optical Cable Laboratory is located in Liangxiang Area of China Electric Power Research Institute. Approved as one of the first "Laboratories of State Grid Corporation of China" in 2007, the Laboratory is in the charge of State Grid Corporation of China and is operated and managed by Information and Communication Department under China Electric Power Research Institute. The Laboratory is the only comprehensive scientific research institution in China that specializes in the research on special optical cable technology. It is also the institution supporting the design, R&D, quality inspection and engineering consultation service of electric power special optical cable and accessories as performed by State Grid Corporation of China.  Passing CNAS and CMA certification early in 2003, the Laboratory is an authoritative quality inspection institution of network access detection of electric power special optical cable.

It mainly performs research on professional theory and application technology for special optical cable, provides special technical supportive service for SGCC system and electric power industry, conducts test and detection on electric power special optical cable and accessories, and carries out formulation and revision of industrial standard, etc. The key technical research directions of the Laboratory include R&D of new-type special optical cable and accessories, online monitoring technology for electric power special optical cable, evaluation of reliability and life expectancy of optical fibre and cable, and research on comprehensive application technology for special optical fibre and cable, etc.

With a building area of 2700m2, the Laboratory has established full performance test and research conditions for electric power special optical cable and accessories on the basis of such international standards as IEEE, IEC and EIA as well as national standard and standard of electric power industry, etc. Its comprehensive testing capacity covers such electric power special optical cable as OPGW, ADSS, OPPC, OPLC, OPMC and OPOC as well as supporting hardware accessories, which is internationally advanced among other laboratories in this field.  In particular, its optical fibre characteristics test system, optical transmission performance test system, optical cable lightening stroking test system, optical cable vibration performance test system, and optical cable creepage test system, etc. are internationally advanced.

The Laboratory possesses a number of domestic experts in special optical cable technology and a high-quality test and detection team. Adhering to the quality goal of "scientific management, effective method, accurate data and standardized service", the Laboratory has conducted test research and provided technical service for many years and has received unanimously good comments from customers at home and abroad.
