Power System Simulation Laboratory

Power System Simulation Laboratory is located in Qinghe Headquarters of China Electric Power Research Institute. It was approved as one of the first "Laboratories of State Grid Corporation of China" in 2007 and is an important part of National Power Grid Safety and Energy Conservation Laboratory and National Engineering Laboratory on Power System Simulation that were approved to be constructed in the same year. The Laboratory is operated and managed by Power System Department under China Electric Power Research Institute.

To meet the safety demand for construction and operation of China's UHV grid and large AC/DC hybrid power grid, the Laboratory has established digital analog hybrid simulation test and research infrastructures according to the planning, design, construction and operation technologies for large AC/DC hybrid power grid. It mainly carries out experimental research on large-scale interregional interconnection super/UHV AC/DC hybrid power transmission system, research on mutual influence of DC multi-feeder receiving end complicated AC/DC systems, research on control technology for improving operating reliability, safety and stability of bulk power grid, research on power system forward-looking technologies, and research and development of other major and key technologies.

The Laboratory is equipped with SGI-altix4700 and SGI-UV2000 super computers, 4 sets of ±500kV bipolar conventional HVDC physical simulation models, 2 sets of ±800kV Bipolar 12-12 pulse UHV HVDC physical simulation models, security control equipment, excitation controller, VSC-HVDC simulation device, SVC controller, TCSC controller, CSR controller, STATOM controller and WAMS-based coordinated control platform, etc. It can carry out experimental research on large-scale AC/DC hybrid power grid program, AC/DC mutual influence of DC multi-feeder system, large power grid safe operation and control technology, access of new technology and device to power grid, and key technology for AC/DC engineering system commissioning, etc.
