Transmission Line Pole and Tower Laboratory

Transmission Line Pole and Tower Laboratory is located in Liangxiang Area of China Electric Power Research Institute. Founded in 1958, the Laboratory was approved as one of the first key laboratories of State Grid Corporation of China in 2007. It is in the charge of State Grid Corporation of China and is operated and managed by Power Transmission and Transformation Engineering Department under China Electric Power Research Institute.

The Laboratory's major research directions include: research on tower structure testing technique and full-scale test, and research on in-service tower safety evaluation and corresponding standard. Targeting at structural stability, reliability and other mechanical properties and design theory of super high-voltage and large transmission line towers, and application of new materials in tower structure, etc., the Laboratory conducts research on the following: design technology and application principle for transmission line towers made of high-strength steel, broad-specification angle steel and other new-type materials; steel tube tower design technology; analysis on tower wind vibration response and design of wind vibration control device; analysis on critical wind speed causing wind vibration of steel tube tower and wind vibration control measures; conductor-tower-foundation static and dynamic coupling and integrated design method; analysis and simulation of line segment invalidation and destruction under the effect of strong breeze; tower structure ice-resistant technology, ice load bearing analysis and research on destruction mode; conductor and tower wind vibration coupling; structure of tower board connection and other new-type joints and the corresponding design and calculating methods; tower structure simulation method and technology; transmission tower full-scale test loading technology and automated test technology; and mechanical test technology for steel-structure components, etc.

Equipped with three tower test systems respectively at the grade of 60m, 100m and 150m and one component test system, the Laboratory can carry out full-scale mechanical strength test on various types of line towers at various voltage grades which are not more than 140m in full height. It can also perform test on tower models and the components.
