Rock and Soil Engineering Laboratory

Rock and Soil Engineering Laboratory is located in Liangxiang Area of China Electric Power Research Institute. Founded in 2002, the Laboratory was approved as one of the first key laboratories of State Grid Corporation of China in 2007. It is in the charge of State Grid Corporation of China and is operated and managed by Transmission and Transformation Engineering Department under China Electric Power Research Institute.

The Laboratory is the only professional institution specializing in basic research on power transmission and transformation engineering foundation in China. It engages in research in the field of power transmission and transformation engineering foundation, including research on power transmission and transformation engineering infrastructure coupling rule and design calculation theory, research and development of new transmission line engineering foundation, research on new construction technology, and research on power foundation environmental rock and soil engineering technology. Meanwhile, the Laboratory engages in test and detection of dynamic characteristics of power transmission and transformation equipment, research and development of power facility shock isolation and absorption technology and the device, and research on power transmission and transformation engineering anti-seismic safety assessment technology and anti-seismic reliability of grid system. With domestically-advanced or internationally-advanced test means and test methods, the Laboratory has leading advantages in formulation and revision of specifications in this field as well as technical consultation on major projects, etc. in China. It can provide timely technical support and services for companies in the following aspects: settlement of key technological problems in major projects in the field of UHV power transmission and transformation engineering foundation, research on key technology for power transmission and transformation engineering foundation, research, popularization and application of new-type environmental-friendly transmission line foundation and engineering solutions, test and detection of power transmission and transformation engineering foundation, formulation and revision of technical standards concerning power transmission and transformation engineering foundation, supply of technical service for improvement in anti-seismic ability of power facilities, and domestic and overseas technical communication on key problems facing power transmission and transformation engineering foundation, etc.

The Laboratory has passed CNAS certification and CMA certification in terms of 31 technical skills in 5 fields: pile foundation, earthwork, foundation, foundation basis, and equipment foundation.  Having multiple sets of foundation loading test equipment in addition to the three-steel-beam structure in the laboratory hall, the Laboratory can provide solid guarantee for foundation test.
