National Engineering Laboratory on Power System Simulation
National Engineering Laboratory on Power System Simulation is located in Qinghe Campus of China Electric Power Research Institute. Founded in 2007, it is in the charge of National Development and Reform Commission and is jointly operated and managed by Power System Department and Relay Protection Department under China Electric Power Research Institute.
To meet the safety demand for construction and operation of China's UHV grid and large AC/DC hybrid power grid, the Laboratory has established test and research infrastructures such as infrastructures for dynamic simulation of power system, digital-analogue simulation, and operation and safety monitoring in the environment of electricity market according to the planning, design, construction and operation technologies for large-scale AC/DC hybrid power grid. It specializes in the research and development of major and key technologies such as technologies for power grid planning, interregional interconnection, AC-DC parallel power grid, safe and stable operation of multi-infeed DC access receiving-end grid, and simulation of large power grid.
The Laboratory is equipped with four ±500kV bipolar long-distance DC transmission systems, two ±800kV bipolar long-distance DC transmission systems, one flexible DC transmission system, one AC transmission system and other physical simulation devices and full digital simulation devices. It is also fitted with 16 generator units, UHV AC/DC transmission simulation systems, photovoltaic analog components, various load models and thyristor controlled series capacitors, controllable high voltage shunt reactors, electronic transformers and other new-type electrical equipment and components as well as such application systems as energy management system, wide area measurement system, power market simulation system, and full digital real-time simulation system which has been independently integrated and developed by the Laboratory through using full digital real-time simulation technology.
