National Power Grid Safety and Energy Conservation Laboratory

The main part of National Power Grid Safety and Energy Conservation Laboratory is located in Qinghe Campus of China Electric Power Research Institute. Founded in 2007 upon the approval of Ministry of Science and Technology, the Laboratory is in the charge of National Development and Reform Commission and is jointly operated and managed by Power System Department, Relay Protection Department and Power Consumption & Energy Efficiency Department under China Electric Power Research Institute.

Focusing on power grid safety and energy conservation, the Laboratory engages in the research on power system simulation analysis and planning technology, large power grid safety operation and control technology, energy conservation of power electronics and power transmission & distribution, safe operation of power grid, and automation of power grid operation, etc. It consists of 5 research units: power system simulation technology research unit, power system dynamic simulation technology research unit, power grid dispatching operation and monitoring technology research unit, power system power electronic technology research unit, and power grid energy efficiency test and energy conservation technology research unit.

The Laboratory is capable of multi-angle & multi-level simulation and experimental research on large-scale complicated AC/DC interconnected power system, experimental research on control and protection of super/UHV AC/DC system, power grid accident simulation analysis, research on large power grid operation control technology, dynamic security analysis and evaluation on large-scale interconnected power grid, dispatcher training simulation and fault preview, energy efficiency test on electricity saving equipment, complete test on high-power power and electronic equipment, and complete test on FACTS device high-voltage valve based on half-controlled device and HV/UHV DC converter valve. It can meet the demands for national power grid UHV backbone network programming scheme and the research on its performance characteristics, and can provide theoretical analysis methods and technical support for the establishment of safe and stable defense system for interregional interconnected power grid.
