National Laboratory on UHV Engineering Technology
The main part of National Laboratory on UHV Engineering Technology consists of UHV DC test base and UHV AC test base, which are respectively located in Changping Area and Wuhan Area of China Electric Power Research Institute. Founded in 2008 upon approval, the Laboratory is in the charge of National Development and Reform Commission and is operated and managed by High Voltage Department under Wuhan Branch of China Electric Power Research Institute.
Since its foundation, the Laboratory has performed research on multiple key technologies which influence China's design, construction and operation of UHV AC and DC transmission projects. It has made tremendous achievements in UHV transmission research field and greatly supported China's design, construction and operation of UHV AC and DC transmission projects.
Based on the assessment and test on UHV power grid equipment under various environmental conditions, the Laboratory has established the following test facilities: UHV outdoor test field, test hall, testing line, smart grid inspection device laboratory, all-condition experiment research platform of UHV AC equipment, corona cage, equipment inspection field, filth and environmental climate laboratory, insulator and arrester laboratory, grounding laboratory, wind tunnel laboratory, accelerated aging laboratory and ecological observation field of power frequency electromagnetic field, etc. Such facilities can support the research and test in many key technical fields, such as UHV AC and DC test line all-weather electromagnetic environment measurement, corona characteristics of multi-split conductors with different structures, observation of ecological effect of power frequency electromagnetic field, external insulation characteristics of insulator under such conditions as high altitude, heavy ice coating and filth, UAVS transmission line inspection system, R&D of intelligent substation inspection robot and on-the-job training, long-term charging test on such equipment as UHV AC bushing, GIS and mutual inductor under joint effect of full voltage and full current, test on transient operating mode under different effect of overvoltage (thunder, operation and VFTO), substation (convertor station) large-scale grounding technology, resistor accelerated aging test and tower air gap as well as UHV system design, operation, equipment R&D and overhaul.
